On any given day CNN is a carnivale of news miniseries, sensationalism, egomaniacal punditry and obsessive speculators. That is one of the reason it frustrates so much, because they also have some of the finest most intelligent reporting anywhere. This week foreign correspondent Michael Ware is reporting on the front lines in Afghanistan and his non-italicized reporting, depth of analysis and cultural penetration is breathtaking. His courage and expertise brings to mind master war reporter William Shirer.
Fortunately, it’s easy to get his reports along with Peter Bergen and Christiane Amanpour online without all the sideshows.
