Last night the Curtis Institute recital series pianist Jonathan Biss, international concert soloist, returned to lead the Brahm’s quartet no. 2 with Yiying Li violin, Jinsun Hong viola and Nathan Vickery cello and only after three sessions together this quartet sounded like they had always been together-The most supple prestos and adagios, diamond precision in the exits, deep voicings and conjurings from this quartet.
Floated out to a flash blizzard in Rittenhouse with big fat flakes and a skyline haze making it dark & mystical evening.
Back at Curtis today to talk to Benjamin Schwartz, under 30 Curtis Alum also and late of San Francisco Symphony, now Berliner and conductor in demand all over Europe and Scandanavia. He is back to conduct a concert version of La Sonnambula by Bellini for the continuation of opera month in Philly with the East Coast Premiere of Tan Dun’s Tea and AVA’s Capriccio by Strauss. Wintertime and the livin’ is easy.
